Our Story

The New Jersey Swim Safety Alliance, or NJSSA, is a group of swim professionals united to promote water safety throughout the state of New Jersey.

How We Got Here

In the summer of 2020, we began connecting due to COVID-19, to share resources and information, and to educate the public on the safety and health benefits of swimming.

We soon realized the strength of our collaborative voice and how we could unite to promote water safety beyond the current health crisis.

So, we got organized and leveraged our individual expertise to create a non-profit organization that promotes a common goal… water safety for all!

Who We Are

We are swim professionals from all across the state and represent all areas of aquatics, from coaches and instructors to aquatic venue owners, community directors, and more!

We have partnerships and consultants from national swim organizations like the Red Cross, USA Swimming, and the US Swim School Association.

Our general members are led by a Board of Directors that meet monthly to determine the objectives and actions of the organization.

We Believe

Swimming is an essential skill.

Everyone should have access to water safety materials and programs.

Health benefits are realized through swimming as a lifelong activity.

Our Initial Objectives Are To:

Share, create and distribute educational resources that demonstrate the importance of water safety and how to be water safe.

Advocate for swim safety education requirements in schools.

Sponsor, host, and participate in events and activities that promote safety when swimming and engaging in all water activities.

Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 14 years old.

Teaching your kids to swim and be water safe should be up there with teaching them to look both ways before crossing the street.
